Review: My Beauty Diary Natto Mask

My Beauty Diary masks are popular in the AB world especially among the Chinese people because it is a Taiwanese brand. It has appeared in whatever shallow, vain, superficial Taiwanese beauty programs like Nu Ren Wo Zui Da, etc. Yeah those programs are helpful but at the same time they are freaking annoying. If you have even seen some of the videos on Youtube, you would understand why. For example, the shocking transformation before and after makeup. The hosts' reactions are terrible. They are so ugly yet they make fun of the woman's appearance. Even the female hosts who wear thick makeup would go tsk tsk like wtf did you not see that thick paint on your face. Tsk simisai (lit: what the shit). Or when it comes to tricking others with boob enlargement methods, the male hosts would also be highly involved like wtf, go away. It's super uncomfortable to see straight men helping women that way. I hate this kind of silly Chinese culture. And you wonder why many East Asian ra

Review: Yew’s Cafe @ Senibong Cove, Masai, Johor

I heard the spaghetti here is good so we made a visit to Senibong Cove. The restaurant has a cozy and joyful atmosphere due to Christmas season. I ordered prawn spaghetti and chicken wings. The prawn spaghetti was delicious. The key to a good spaghetti is tons of garlic snd this spaghetti has it. The prawn shell was difficult to peel off as it sticked to closely to the skin. Anyone knows why certain prawns are more difficult to peel? I heard it was due to them bring frozen and not fresh. I forgot to take a picture of the chicken wings. They were too salty so I don’t recommend it. Go for the spaghetti and forget the chicken wings.

Review: Kuu by Tea Garden @ Aeon Tebrau City, Johor Bahru Part 2

So I had visited Kuu by Tea Garden before ( Read Part 1 here ), and this time I decided to visit it again for the egg tarts and also the mee rebus. The mee rebus was okay. It wasn’t spicy at all and it would definitely taste better with some cili padi thrown into it. It definitely isn’t as good as the ones you can find at Malay stalls and restaurants. It isn’t bad though and it is something I would order again.

Review: The Substitutes @ Taman Dataran Larkin, Johor Bahru

I found this cafe when I was nearby and looking at Google to see if there are any good cafes nearby. The Substitutes came highly rated so we decided to check it out. The cafe screams HIPSTER which is still a budding trend in JB. The waiter was really polite and we ordered mudpie and chicken chop. The mudpie came first. It is the usual practice to ask if we would like to have our desserts to be served now or after meals but we weren’t asked that. Nevertheless, having the dessert now was what we wanted because the dessert was mainly for me while the chicken chop was mainly for my boyfriend. The mudpie looked like a cake but it wasn’t. The base was made out of chocolate biscuits and some icy layer. It was then topped with ice cream and 2 biscuits filled with pineapple jam if I was not mistaken. Chocolate sauce was also drizzled on the plate. Overall, it was good enough to satisfy my cravings for a dessert. I don’t know if it was intentional but the chicken chop was burnt on

Review: Sizzling Stonegrill @ Aeon Tebrau City, Johor Bahru

Sizzling Stonegrill is a place where you can grill meat on a hot stone. I ordered Beef Tenderloin Steak which is priced at RM42.90 and you can choose 2 side orders. The prices of the side orders are listed and some are at least 2x the price of other side dishes so you can choose the most expensive side orders to make your money worth lol. It was my treat so I let my boyfriend chose the side orders and he chose mashed potatos and french fries. Two potato side dishes wtf. Since it is DIY, you can cook the beef up to the level of rawness you like. I have mine cooked well done, which means fully cooked because I had a stomachache yesterday and don’t want to risk getting another one today. While the beef was cooking, I tasted the mashed potatoes first. I didn’t like it. It had a slight soapy aroma which doesn’t exactly make me felt like eating soap. Rather, I suspect the soapiness was from certain herbs or spices. The gravy was black pepper-based which helped to mask that soapines

Review: Todak Seafood Restaurant (Orang Asli) @ Teluk Jawa, Masai, Johor

Todak Seafood Restaurant is arguably the most popular seafood restaurant in Johor Bahru as the food is supposedly good and affordable. Tons of Singaporeans would flock to this restaurant and it is recommended to come before 7 pm so you wouldn’t have to wait for so long. Todak Restaurant is always very packed and you would have to stand near the table of the patrons whom you think would be leaving soon so you can book that table. Come in a huge group and give the patrons who are eating (preferably a small group like a couple) an intense stare to pressure them to leave quicker lol. After we got a table, we ordered Teo Chew steamed fish, lala with spring onion and ginger, and the highly recommended curry prawns. We also ordered bo li seng (iceberg lettuce) vegetables which wasn’t photographed because who cares about vegetables at a seafood restaurant. The steamed fish came in a huge plate. The fish was fresh but the broth wasn’t great as it was a tad plain. We would prefer it to

Review: Drip Loft (Vape Cafe) @ Bangsar Baru, Kuala Lumpur

Drip Loft is the place to go if you love coffee and vaping. I don't care about vaping as I'm here for the food. The way to my heart s through my stomach and not my lungs. Hearing the word vape actually makes me cringe as I hate anything bad to my health caused by others such as smoking and vaping. And no, I don't want to hear your excuses on how vaping is not unhealthy. I ordered the croissant and the presentation is magnificent. However, it tastes soooo average. This is overpriced croissant. I won't come back here anymore unless some friends ask me to die die hang out at this place. It's really not worth it unless you are here for the vaping and environment, and want to enjoy some snacks.

Review: HELLO! by Kitchen Mafia @ Happy Mansion, Section 17, Petaling Jaya

HELLO! by Kitchen Mafia is owned by 2 well-known Malaysian chefs Johnny Fua & Sherson Lian. I actually had not heard of them prior to knowing the existence of Kitchen Mafia as I had not been in tune with the entertainment news in Malaysia but apparently those chefs are really popular here and that one of them is a celebrity chef. The food at HELLO! by Kitchen Mafia is a fusion of East meet West, and you will be able to see many original ideas here. If you want to try unique food you can't find anywhere else, HELLO! by Kitchen Mafia is one cafe you should explore. I ordered the Beef Ragout Pasta because I have no idea what ragout means. Yes, I'm adventurous like that so you can easily fool me into ordering things but giving them strange names that don't sound obviously made up. The beef pasta costs RM28. Beef is always a hit or miss to me because some beef has a strong unpleasant smell. It was risky for me to order beef pasta but I took the risk because since thi

Review: Angel Cradle Cafe @ Taman Molek, Johor Bahru

One day, I spotted this Angel Cradle Cafe while looking around in Taman Molek. It didn't have many customers but I decided to try out this cafe. Anything for the blog! It is a cafe that sells mainly Western food so the price is a little high. I can't remember the name of this pasta but it must have the word carbonara or creamy in it. I really wouldn't recommend it. It is disgusting! I couldn't finish eating it. This tomato-based pasta is not amazing either but better than the creamy pasta. At least this one is tolerable. I won't come back to this cafe again. The food is disappointing and it is quite expensive. I was shocked to see that it has good ratings on Google reviews. This is why you can't easily trust reviews on Google or Facebook because friends and family could have easily give them good reviews. There must be better cafes than this (Although I still find JB quite hopeless so far when it comes to food)! Adios!

Review: Kuu By Tea Garden @ Aeon Tebrau City, Johor Bahru Part 1

Tea Garden is a popular cafe chain in Johor Bahru. The recently revamped Aeon Tebrau City now has Kuu by Tea Garden. I don't know why they add Kuu to it. Perhaps it is a mini version because Tea Garden has more variety of items to order. The popular food at Tea Garden are actually the snacks like egg tarts and salted egg bun. At the regular Tea Garden, there are Cantonese egg tarts and Portuguese egg tarts which get sold out often but it seems like Kuu by Tea Garden only has Cantonese egg tarts which don't get sold out. I don't know why they don't sell Portuguese egg tarts in their Aeon Tebrau City branch as they are popular in other branches. The egg tarts are delicious enough for me to purchase again. I don't really recommended the main courses in the menu though. I have tried the herbal chicken and I think the chicken was quite tasteless. Read Part 2 here

Review: Wafu Kitchen @ Taman Mount Austin, Johor Bahru

Wafu Kitchen is conveniently situated within the walking distance of Sunway College Johor Bahru and Austin Heights Private & International Schools. Hence, it isn't uncommon to see youngsters eating at Wafu Kitchen. Japanese food is always a favorite among youngsters here in Malaysia. Being the only Japanese cafe within walking distance of the college and school, I doubt this cafe would suffer from a lack of customers anytime soon. I ordered this egg and prawn rice. The presentation is lovely but it does not taste as good as it looks. It tastes very average. Really nothing to shout about. I wouldn't order this again. Not sure if I would even visit this cafe again.

Review: One 2 Eat Cafe @ Taman Molek, Johor Bahru

One Two Eat Cafe seems to be a favourite among the locals due to the extensive menu. For instance, there are local food and Japanese food. The above is tantan ramen. I don't recommend it as it is quite tasteless and the pork slices aren't fresh so there is an unpleasant smell. The teriyaki salmon don on the other hand, is not bad. It is edible. Another food I had tried that I would recommend is the fried prawn with thousand island sauce. I had also tried the saba fish with rice which I would not recommend as the saba fish is quite tasteless, unlike the one at Sushi Zanmai. Because this cafe has an extensive menu and the food is okay, it is a place you can go again and again to try out various dishes. Just don't expect too much.

Review: Patissez @ SS21 Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya

I have seen people posting about Patissez before so I decided to test it out. Their Freakshakes seem to be their star product. I have visited Pattisez a few times to try out a few of their Freakshakes. I would recommend you to share the Freakshake instead of gulping the whole thing by yourself because it is quite huge. Each Freakshake costs RM19 but they also have Baby Freakshakes which cost RM12 each. The picture above is the Freakshake called Muddy Pat 2.0 which is basically chocolate everything. To be honest, none of their Freakshakes are amazingly good for me. It's just something I would eat for fun but won't crave for it. Anothe flavour of Freakshake that I had also tried was Pretzella, a Nutella-based milkshake. I slightly prefer this over the Muddy Pat 2.0. Mint Condition is a mint-flavored Freakshake. It isn't for everyone as it kinda feels like eating toothpaste after a while. The Crispy Skin Sea Bass is one of the recommended items on the menu. I

Review: Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart VS Uncle Tetsu's Baked Cheese Tart @ Aeon Tebrau City, Johor Bahru

At Aeon Tebrau City, there are 2 shops selling Japanese baked cheese tarts. So who does it better? For that, I have to taste both at the same day because I'm not good at remembering taste precisely. First off, is Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart. Mmm! It's delicious and fragrant. I can't eat more than one though because I would get sick of it easily. These things are to be enjoyed in small portions. Next is the Uncle Tetsu's cheese tart. From the picture, you can already see which one is more well-baked. Uncle Tetsu's cheese tart looks less appealing due to its lack of browning. Taste-wise, it is more sour and less fragrant. It is also more crumbly so be careful when you hold it. So the obvious winner is Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart! I won't bother with Uncle Tetsu's cheese tarts anymore as long as there are other baked cheese tarts nearby.

Review: Bearkery House @ Taman Molek, Johor Bahru

Bearkery House at Taman Molek  specializes in bakery and the cafe is decorated with many teddy bears. Many new cafes some up with this kind of attractive concept to fool young people into coming into the cafe (yeah I'm obviously one). Their specialty is in their toast breads but they are kind of expensive. I was hungry and needed a heavier meal so I didn't order the bread but miso ramen instead. Unfortunately, the miso ramen is an abomination. It tastes DISGUSTING. I don't know how to describe it. It just tastes 'fake'. Like there's a whole lot of artificial flavours. I could not finish my miso ramen as a result. Even though the toast bread is their star product, I doubt I would step foot into this cafe again after the atrocious miso ramen.

Review: Moonlight Cake House @ Taman Mount Austin, Johor Bahru

Recently, I have been seeing Moonlight Cake House outlets opening in Kuala Lumpur. Moonlight Cake House originated from Johor. With several outlets in Johor, Moonlight Cake House is quite well-known among the locals.  I have been to Moonlight Cake House a few times not because the cakes are amazing, but they are open till quite late at night. If you are craving for cakes late at night like I do sometimes, Moonlight Cake House is one of the cafes you can go to because depending on the branches, they would open until anytime between 11 pm and 2 am. The cake above is tiramisu and the taste is just okay. Don't expect too much from this cafe. It has a great cozy and clean environment which makes it a nice place to hang out especially with girls. The food is nothing to shout about, be it the desserts, breads, or main courses.

Review: Miyako @ Aeon Tebrau City, Taman Desa Tebrau, Johor Bahru

Miyako is one of the restaurants located in the Japanese Street in Aeon Tebrau City. It is mainly a BBQ restaurant with a few Japanese offerings like grilled mochi, karaage etc. Look at the picture below. Does it remind you of anything? It looks exactly like BBQ Plaza! The set usually includes cabbages. I chose the plain bone broth even though they have other fancier soups. I don't really like the meat as it is not very fresh. The meat tastes like it has been frozen for a long time, but what can you expect from a restaurant in a mall? The dipping sauce is crucial here, and there are many types of sauce available which you could scoop on your own. The place is often a little too cold for me so be sure to bring a jacket if you feel cold easily.

Review: Yoshinoya Hanamaru @ Aeon Tebrau City, Taman Desa Tebrau, Johor Bahru

Yoshinoya Hanamaru is one of the latest additions at Aeon Tebrau City which has a Japanese street filled with Japanese shops, cafes and restaurants. It is popular with its udon which is a great choice when you are just slightly hungry. I ordered the beef udon and I was disappointed. The beef was not flavorful and was very tasteless. Most importantly, there's no egg in this dish and egg makes a world of a difference when it comes to udon. I would instead recommend the basic springy udon with runny egg, Ontama Bukkake, which is cheap and delicious. Or, you could order any udon noodles with ontama (runny egg). I assure you that the egg is the distinctive factor in deciding the tastiness of udon. I will never get bored eating this basic Ontama Bukkake!

Review: Gerai Makan Japanese BBQ 大众烧肉 @ Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur

Gerai Makan Japanese BBQ 大众烧肉 is not a place for princessy girls who don't want to smell like BBQ after meals or risk having makeup being melted away. You will definitely sweat and smell like BBQ after visiting this place. It is located at the back alley of Plaza Faber. We ordered this dish called Genghis Khan which only costs RM20. Genghis Khan is a popular dish in Japan which is basically Japanese grilled mutton slices with cabbages on a skillet. I would recommend this dish. The meat and broth is very flavorful and savory.   Other than that, you can also order innards and meat to be grilled. We ordered throat, heart, baby intestine and tongue. I don't recommend the throat as it was quite tough. The other parts were good and easy to chew. I'm totally Chinese and enjoyed eating them.

Review: Brewyard Coffee @ SS15, Subang Jaya

While craving for desserts, I spotted this Brewyard Coffee Cafe. I thought they would have cakes, but something else caught my attention: Waffles! Not the ordinary waffles, but the bubble waffles which is also referred to as Eggio waffle or B.Y. Waffle. Needless to say, I had to try one of these.   So the waffle was okay, not the best I have tried but definitely not terrible. The waffle was not as fragrant as the ones at Madame Waffle and Zeus Thirteen Cafe . The waffle was topped with 2 scoops of ice cream which made this dessert a tasty treat for those who are not picky about waffles.

Review: Manila Grill @ Taman Molek, Johor Bahru

I've never been to The Philippines and I've never tried any Filipino food, so Manila Grill attracted me even though there were hardly any customers when I entered into the cafe. I had been to Manila Grill several times just to try the various Filipino food offered. The Filipina lady was always very sweet in taking our orders and making recommendations. Such warmth and hospitality are the things I often hear about Filipinos. I think I would have a nice time visiting their country one day. Despite the amazing hospitality, I would remain truthful and unbiased in my review. Even though there were not many customers every time I visited Manila Grill, it took quite some time for the food to arrive so I would not recommend it for those who are in a hurry. The food below is called pancit lomi which is a type of noodles. It tasted alright the first few bites but I soon got sick of it because it was ridden with MSG. I could not finish eating it in the end. The rule of thumb is that

Review: FANPEKKA Cafe by SDS @ Aeon Tebrau City, Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru seems to be upgrading itself with new malls. Aeon Tebrau City is not new but there was a recent expansion the mall is bigger now with new shops. On the highest floor, there is this theme park for kids where you can find FANPEKKA Cafe by SDS. SDS is prominent bakery and cafe in Johor Bahru. I wasn't in the mood for cakes as I was hungry so I ordered aglio olio instead. I'm not a fan. I'm easy to please when it comes to aglio olio but this pasta tastes 'empty'. It has not much flavour except for MSG. Suffice to say, I wouldn't come here for main meals again. I have tried cakes at SDS before and they are passable. Not great but not terrible either.

Review: Oregi Restaurant @ SS15, Subang Jaya

Oregi Restaurant is a very popular restaurant in Subang because the restaurant offers cheap Middle Eastern food and Shisha, so it is kinda like a more upscale version of mamak. And which student has not tried Shisha before? I've tried shisha before but I don't see what is so fun with it but then clubbing is similarly boring to me, so that's why I'm not popular. #nerd It was my first time trying hummus and I love it! Hummus is that beige creamy thing. It is great when you don't want something too flavorful. I was craving for something without a strong taste and this dish was perfect for me. If you're bored with rotis, try this. The roasted chicken kabsa rice comes with some spicy sambal and peppery soup. I'm not a huge fan of fried chicken so this was just okay for me. The sambal made up for it though. I can't remember the name of this dish but it must be lamb something. Maybe it's Lamb Haneeth Kabsa rice. It's my favorite among the heav

Review: Morningwood Cafe @ SS15, Subang Jaya

Making my way downtown, walking fast, faces pass, stumbling upon Morningwood Cafe. Yeah doesn't rhyme at all, but whatever. With such a hipster name which follows the trend of many emerging cafes in Klang Valley in recent years, this cafe is certain to attract the young crowd who likes to try out food at new cafes (AKA me). The names of the dishes have a sexual connotation to them, like Ozawa, Yamate, Tentacles, etc but I ordered the boringly named black pasta which is a squid ink-based pasta. Oh, come on. I could think of many naughty things associated with 'black' such as black ____ and black ____ (insert the blanks by yourself) so they could definitely do better than naming all their pastas a boring color. Don't spoil the party, man!   While it looks disgusting, it doesn't taste so. I think it is a combo of tomato pasta with squid ink because the sauce has that sourish taste of tomato pasta. I love pasta and basically any decent pasta is enough to make me

Review: Milkcow Soft Serve Ice Cream @ The Gardens, Mid Valley

When Milkcow first appeared in Malaysia, the hype is unreal. Almost all my friends have tried it and posted it on Instagram. When the hype has died down, that's when the hermit me crawled out of my cave and tried it. No queues, yay. Is it good? You bet it is! I ordered the basic, cheapest soft serve ice cream and I really loved it. I thought it would taste about the same as McDonald's, but it doesn't. Milkcow's soft serve ice cream has a really strong milky taste. I love milk so this ice cream is amazing to me. It is better than McDonald's but my cheapo boyfriend prefers McDonald's.

Review: Nana's Green Tea @ The Gardens, Mid Valley

I saw Nana's Green Tea before in Japan, and only then did I realize that it is a Japanese chain. No wonder the branch at Midvalley is always filled with customers. While the patrons seem to prefer the parfait, I prefer warm or hot desserts so I go with one of the lattes. They have matcha, genmaicha, etc. If you're a fan of green tea lattes, then you should try this one out.   The hamburg rice is surprisingly not bad. Dessert-centric cafes usually have disgusting main course meals. I don't like the soft-boiled egg though because it was cold from the fridge. Anything savory that is cold is usually yucks to me. This cafe is definitely worth a visit if you are obsessed with green tea-based desserts. The parfaits are popular so maybe you can try that one out.

Review: Yut Kee Restaurant @ Jalan Kamunting, Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur

Yut Kee Restaurant is very popular in Kuala Lumpur and it is one of the restaurants you must try. It has an old kopitiam design and you would usually have to wait around 30 minutes to get a seat. You would often have to share a table with others too. The most popular dish is undeniably the Hainanese Pork Chop. I highly recommend it. The potatoes are delicious too but they are like 4/5 cooked? The inside of the potatoes seem just a tad raw, but it could be just me. There is also Hainanese Chicken Chop but I don't recommend it because it is more tasteless. I always prefer pork over chicken because pork tastes more flavorful to me. Basically, whatever chicken dish would taste better to me if you replace the chicken with pork. If you prefer chicken, then you could try the Hainanese Chicken Chop instead. If you're a no pork no life kind of person, go for the Hainanese Pork Chop! #babisquad I was sitting opposite a college girl who said she's from The One Academy, and she o
